WOW - great job!!!

To all of you who were in the musical Joseph - WOW - terrific, terrific job!  I loved it!  I love that musical anyway, but it was so wonderful to see you all do it so well.  So, your reward is an easy verse this week:

Psalm 118:24  This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

And here's your challenge.  You know the movie we watched in Joseph is very accurate.  The musical takes more poetic license.  I spotted 4 or 5 things that are definitely portrayed in the musical differently than they happen in the Bible.  See if you can tell me some of them.  There is one in particular that is significant in one of the most important morals of Joseph.  The person who catches that one picks lunch for next week!  Go!

  1. the play of joseph is pretty acurate but there are a few differences

    1. potiphar didnt belive joseph was innocent like in the bible and just sent him to jail rght away

    2. they used sheaves of corn instead of wheat in josephs dreams

    3. the brothers only go to egypt once

    4. simeon isn't kept in jail while the others go get benjamin (benjamin was with them the first time)

  2. I found a lot of differences between the Bible and the musical.

-In the musical the brothers tell Jacob that Joseph died. They were very concise. In the Bible, they go to Jacob and ask him if the bloody coat was Joseph's.

-Joseph was the youngest son in the musical, but in the Bible Benjamin was the youngest.

-The brothers went to Egypt once in the musical, but in the Bible they went twice.

-Potiphar caught Mrs. Potiphar and Joseph in the musical, but in the Bible, Mrs. Potiphar told Potiphar (lie).

-Potiphar was beyond angry with Joseph in the musical, but in the Bible he was upset because he would lose Joseph.

  3. In the musical corn is bowing down to Joseph not sheaves of wheat.

Mrs. Potiphar doesn't try to seduce Joseph twice.

Potiphar doesn't believe Joseph is innocent.

  5. Potiphar believes Joseph the first time, and has more respect to him in the bible than the movie.

The brothers went to Egypt three times in the bible and only once in the musical.

  6. In the Bible the Egyptians mistreat Joseph because he will not worship their god because is knows it is a horrendous crime against God but in the Musical the Egyptians do not mistreat Joseph at all and in fact there is no mention of God whatsoever.

  7. From Paul - The musical was different because
    1. They only go to Egypt once in the musical.
    2. They don't make it clear that Joseph is in charge.
    3. Potiphar doesn't tell the punishment should have been death.
    4. Juday never talks about Tamar and his three sons.
    5. It never says Jacob doesn't want Benjamin to go, probably because it only show one trip to Egypt.
    6. It never gives credit to God for prosperity.
    7. Joseph takes credit for interpretting the dreams instead of giving it to God.

  8. Differences between the musical and the Bible:
    1. You do not see Joseph as a slave in the musical and all that is told is that he is bought by Potiphar. Because of this you don't get to see him being mistreated by the slave master for having such strong faith in God.
    2. You do not really see any time in the musical Joseph mentining God, and you can barely tell that there is a reference to God in the song Joseph sings while he is in jail.
    3. In the musical it seems as if all the brothers wish to kill Joseph which is not what the Bible says, and then it seems again if all the brothers had the idea to sell him into slavery which was different than in the Bible.
    4. In the Bible Jacob at first does not believe that Joseph is alive when the brothers tell him, but in the musical Jacob comes immedietly to see Joseph
